Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Fittonia verschaffeltii, commonly called nerve plant, is a low-growing tropical plant native to South America known for its delicate leaves patterned with bright pink, red, or white veining over a green base. What makes this plant special is that high-contrast vein pattern—it looks almost hand-drawn across each leaf, giving it a detailed, ornamental look while staying compact and full.

Light should be gentle and consistent to protect the leaf surface. Place it in a north or east-facing window where it gets soft light without direct sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the top of the plant. In stronger light, the leaves can fade or crisp, while in lower light the plant stretches and loses its tight form. Even, moderate light keeps it dense and vibrant.

Watering needs to stay consistently moist. Allow the top portion of the soil to dry slightly, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep airflow while holding moisture. This plant is very reactive—if it suddenly wilts, it has dried out too far, but it will recover quickly once watered. If stems become soft or collapse at the base while the soil is wet, the roots are staying too saturated.
