Philodendron Micans is a velvet leaf cultivar of Philodendron hederaceum native to Central and South America. It is known for its soft iridescent foliage that shifts between deep green bronze and burgundy depending on light angle. This is a vining species that can trail or climb and leaf size will increase if given vertical support. Texture color depth and internode spacing are strong indicators of overall light balance.

Water using your soak and dry rhythm checking the root zone with a chopstick or moisture meter before watering. The soil should be airy and well draining using a quality potting base mixed with bark and perlite to maintain oxygen flow and prevent compaction. Water thoroughly then allow the root zone to dry down before watering again. Yellowing leaves with soft stems usually signal soil staying too wet while thin leaves longer spacing and loss of velvet sheen can indicate extended dryness or insufficient light.

Direction of light should be steady and directional. An east or north window within one to two feet of the glass works very well. A south window is suitable three to five feet back depending on seasonal intensity. Avoid placing it deep inside a room where growth will stretch and color will dull. If using a grow light choose five thousand to sixty five hundred Kelvin positioned twelve to eighteen inches above the foliage for ten to twelve hours daily. If leaves lose their rich bronze tone or internodes lengthen increase light slightly. When positioned correctly the plant produces dense growth strong velvet texture and deeper color variation.
