Euphorbia trigona ‘Green’, commonly known as the African Milk Tree, originates from the tropical and subtropical regions of Central Africa, where it grows as an upright succulent in areas with bright, direct sunlight and well-draining soil. In its native habitat, the strong light supports its vertical growth and vibrant green stems while minimizing leggy development. Understanding this natural environment helps guide indoor care.

Indoors, Euphorbia trigona ‘Green’ thrives in bright, indirect to direct light, ideally near a south- or west-facing window where it can receive several hours of sunlight each day. Morning sun from an east-facing window is also suitable, but the plant develops more robust, compact growth with stronger light exposure. Insufficient light can cause the stems to stretch and become weak.

To maintain even growth, rotate the plant every few weeks so all sides receive light. If natural sunlight is limited, a high-intensity full-spectrum grow light placed above the plant can replicate its native bright conditions. With consistent bright illumination, Euphorbia trigona ‘Green’ will maintain upright, sturdy stems and a rich, healthy green color.
