Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Calathea ‘Corona’, commonly called Corona Calathea, is a tropical foliage plant grown for its bold, high-contrast center variegation. It originates from South American rainforest conditions where it grows in filtered light and high humidity. What makes this plant special is the large, soft silver to cream center with deep green margins and a subtle feathered transition, plus the burgundy undersides. The leaves are broad, oval, and slightly wavy, held on upright stems, giving it a full, structured look.

Light requirements
Place Calathea ‘Corona’ in an east window or 2 to 4 feet back from a south or west window where it gets bright, indirect light with no direct sun hitting the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light 10 to 14 inches above the canopy. It performs best around 150 to 400 foot-candles. Too much direct light will scorch the pale center, while too little light will dull contrast and slow growth.

Watering & environment
Keep the soil consistently lightly moist, never fully dry and never saturated. Always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter before watering. This plant is sensitive to water quality and prefers filtered or distilled water. It thrives in higher humidity with steady airflow and warm temperatures.

What your plant is telling you

  • Needs water → leaves begin to curl inward, feel thinner, slight droop
  • Too wet → yellowing leaves, soft stems, base decline
  • Light issues → fading contrast (too low light) or scorched, crispy patches on the pale center (too much direct light)
