Monstera Black Onyx 6”

Monstera ‘Black Onyx’, a rare cultivated monstera from tropical Central American lineage, is known for its dark, moody foliage with deep green to almost black tones and a thick, structured leaf surface. What makes this plant special is its unusually dark coloration paired with classic monstera form, giving it a bold, high-contrast, collector-level look. As it matures and climbs, the leaves can develop subtle fenestrations while maintaining that rich, saturated tone.

Light supports both color depth and leaf development. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause the plant to lose that deep coloration and lean more green, while too much direct sun can stress the leaves and cause fading.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If new leaves are coming in lighter green instead of deep-toned, it is not getting enough light. If the plant produces smaller leaves or fewer fenestrations, it may also need more light or support. Yellowing at the base with soft stems points to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
