Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Alocasia x amazonica ‘Polly’, commonly called Polly alocasia or African mask plant, is a hybrid with Southeast Asian lineage known for its dark green, glossy leaves with sharply defined white veins and deeply scalloped edges. What makes this plant special is its high-contrast, almost sculpted look—bold veining and dramatic leaf shape that gives it a striking, architectural presence.

Light drives both leaf contrast and overall structure. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the leaves come in smaller with less defined veining and the plant may lean. Strong, even light keeps the leaves broader and the contrast sharp.

Watering and environment need to stay consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep airflow high. This plant reacts quickly—if a leaf yellows and drops while a new one is forming, that can be normal energy cycling. If multiple leaves decline while the soil is wet, the roots are staying too saturated. If edges crisp while the leaf stays firm, it’s reacting to humidity swings rather than watering frequency.
