Syzygium paniculatum, also known as the Magenta Cherry or Australian Brush Cherry, is a glossy-leafed evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its colorful new growth, which emerges in rich shades of magenta before maturing to deep green. Native to Australia, this plant can be grown as an ornamental shrub, hedge, or even a bonsai. With proper care, it may produce small white flowers and edible, magenta-colored berries that give it its name.

This plant thrives in bright, indirect light to full sun. If grown indoors, place it near a very bright window or supplement with grow lights. Outdoors, it enjoys morning sun and some afternoon shade in hotter climates. Syzygium prefers evenly moist, well-draining soil—water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and avoid letting the soil stay soggy. It's important to water consistently, especially during hot weather, as it can drop leaves if left too dry for too long.

To keep your Magenta Cherry looking its best, maintain moderate humidity and keep it in a warm environment (ideally above 60°F or 15°C). Regular pruning helps shape the plant and encourages dense, colorful new growth. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a balanced or foliage-boosting fertilizer. Watch for pests like psyllids or aphids and treat early if spotted.
