Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea’, commonly called Monstera aurea, is a highly sought-after variegated form native to Central America known for its bold yellow to golden variegation across large, split leaves. What makes this plant special is the intensity and unpredictability of its color, ranging from soft marbling to striking sectoral patches that create a high-contrast, collector-level look. As it matures and climbs, the leaves develop larger fenestrations and a more dramatic structure, making it a true statement plant.

Light supports both growth and stable variegation. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause the yellow variegation to fade and lean more green, while too much direct sun can burn the lighter sections.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If new leaves are coming in with less yellow and more green, it is not getting enough light. If the plant produces smaller leaves with fewer splits, it also needs more light or stronger support. Browning on the yellow areas is typically from light or moisture stress rather than a disease.
