Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Pteris cretica ‘Albolineata’, commonly called Silver Ribbon Fern. Native to tropical and subtropical regions where it grows along forest floors and shaded rock faces. This fern is valued for its clean, striped variegation. Each frond has a soft green edge with a pale silver-green center stripe, giving it a light, airy look. The fronds are narrow, slightly arching, and finely textured, creating movement and fullness without heaviness. It’s a classic but elevated fern that reads bright and fresh in any space.

North or east window is ideal. It can sit right at the window or 1–2 ft back. Avoid direct sun, especially from south or west exposure, which will scorch the soft fronds. Grow lights: 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches above the canopy. Target 75–200 foot-candles. Too much light will bleach or crisp the fronds. Too little light will cause sparse, weak growth and loss of that crisp striping.

Keep the soil evenly moist. This is not a plant that wants to dry out. Check the root zone and water as soon as it starts to approach dry, not after it dries. Prefers higher humidity and steady airflow. Sensitive to drying out and inconsistent watering. What it’s telling you: crispy tips or edges mean too dry or low humidity. Pale, washed fronds mean too much light. Limp, collapsing growth means it was allowed to dry too far. Slow, thin growth means not enough light.
