Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Episcia cupreata, commonly called flame violet, is a tropical plant native to Central and South America known for its velvety, textured leaves that often show metallic tones of green, bronze, or red with intricate patterning. The foliage grows low and spreads outward with trailing runners, creating a full, carpet-like look. It also produces small, bright flowers that add contrast against the richly colored leaves.

Light should be bright but soft to maintain leaf color and texture. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it gets steady, filtered light without direct sun hitting the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the top of the plant. Too much direct sun can fade the velvety finish and scorch the leaves, while too little light will reduce color intensity and slow growth.

Watering and environment need to stay consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep airflow while holding moisture. If the leaves begin to lose their rich color or appear dull, it is getting too much light. If new growth comes in smaller with less pattern, it is not getting enough light. Soft stems or collapse at the base usually point to excess moisture at the roots, while crispy edges often indicate low humidity rather than watering issues.
