Colocasia esculenta ‘Mojito’, commonly called mojito elephant ear, is a tropical plant known for its large, heart-shaped leaves splashed with irregular dark purple to black speckling over a bright green base. What makes this plant special is its unpredictable pattern—each leaf develops a different mix of spotting and blotching, giving it a bold, painted look while growing fast and full.

Light drives both pattern intensity and leaf size. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light with some direct sun. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the leaves come in smaller with less pronounced spotting and the plant may stretch. Strong light supports larger leaves and more defined contrast.

Watering should stay consistently high compared to most houseplants. Keep the soil evenly moist and do not allow it to fully dry out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to maintain airflow while holding moisture. This plant thrives with steady hydration—if leaves droop while the soil is wet, it can indicate root stress. If edges brown or the plant wilts, it may be drying out too much. Rapid growth means it will use water quickly, especially in strong light.
