Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Tradescantia ‘Pink Lilac’, commonly called wandering jew pink lilac, is a trailing plant native to Central and South America known for its soft purple, pink, and green striped foliage that cascades quickly as it grows. What makes this plant special is its pastel coloration—new growth often comes in brighter pink and lilac tones, creating a layered, flowing look with a soft metallic sheen across the leaves.

Light directly affects both color and fullness. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light with some gentle direct sun. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the pink and purple tones fade and the vines become stretched with wider spacing between leaves. Strong light keeps the color vibrant and the growth compact.

Watering should stay balanced and slightly more consistent than most trailing plants. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark for airflow. This plant roots and grows quickly, so soggy soil can cause stems to rot fast. If vines become thin and stretched, it needs more light. If stems soften near the soil line, the roots are staying too wet rather than needing more water.

This plant signals clearly through its color and growth habit. Bright pink and purple tones mean the light is strong enough to maintain pigmentation. Fading color or sparse vines indicate lower light. Crispy leaf edges usually come from drying out too far, while mushy stems point to excess moisture. Regular trimming helps keep the plant fuller and prevents long, bare vines.
