Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Bear Paw Succulent (Cotyledon tomentosa) is a compact, fuzzy succulent known for its thick, soft leaves that end in tiny “claw” tips, often edged in red. The velvety texture and unique paw-like shape make it a standout, especially in small pots or grouped with other succulents. It stays relatively low and bushy, giving it a full, plush look that feels different from typical smooth-leaf succulents.

Light is key to keeping it compact and bringing out those red tips. Place it in a south or west-facing window where it can get strong, direct or near-direct light. If using grow lights, aim for 5000K–6500K at 1500–3000 foot-candles. Too little light will cause stretching and loss of the “paw” shape, while strong light keeps the leaves thick, tight, and more defined.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow it to dry again. Use a fast-draining succulent mix with added perlite or pumice. If the leaves start to feel soft or wrinkle, it’s ready for water—if they look swollen, translucent, or drop easily, it’s staying too wet. Keep humidity low and avoid getting water trapped on the fuzzy leaves to prevent rot.
