Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Senecio macroglossus, commonly called Wax Ivy, is a trailing succulent vine grown for its glossy ivy-shaped leaves. Native to South Africa, it grows in warm, dry environments where it climbs and trails through surrounding vegetation. What makes this plant special is the way it resembles traditional ivy while behaving more like a succulent, with thicker, waxy leaves that store moisture. The foliage is deep green to variegated depending on the cultivar, with pointed lobes and smooth, slightly shiny surfaces along trailing stems.

Light requirements
Place Wax Ivy in an east or south window for the best growth and structure, positioned at the window or within 1 to 2 feet depending on intensity. A west window can also work well, while a north window will slow growth and cause legginess. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light 8 to 12 inches above the canopy. It performs best around 300 to 800 foot-candles. Brighter light keeps the vines compact and the leaves fuller.

Watering & environment
Allow the soil to dry most of the way between waterings, and always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter before watering. The thicker leaves store moisture, making this plant sensitive to overwatering. Use a fast-draining mix and provide steady airflow. It adapts well to average indoor humidity and prefers warmer temperatures.

What your plant is telling you
If leaves begin to wrinkle or feel thinner, it is ready for water. If stems become soft or leaves yellow and drop, the soil is staying too wet. If vines become stretched with wider spacing between leaves, it needs more consistent light.
