Spring Cactus, commonly known as Easter cactus, is native to the coastal mountains of Brazil where it grows as an epiphyte in humid, shaded environments. Unlike desert cacti, it has flat, segmented leaves and produces vibrant star-shaped blooms in spring, ranging from pinks and reds to oranges. What makes this plant desirable is its seasonal flowering and fuller, more upright growth compared to holiday cactus varieties, giving it a clean, structured look when in bloom.

Place this plant in an east-facing window about 1–3 feet from the glass, or a north-facing window close to the light. It prefers softer, consistent light and will stress in harsh direct sun. A west window can work if it’s 3–5 feet back. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K positioned 10–14 inches above the plant. If growth becomes thin or blooms are weak, it needs more light. If segments turn red or feel stressed, the light is too intense.

Water using a chopstick or meter and let the soil dry about halfway before watering again. This plant likes more consistent moisture than desert cacti but still needs good drainage and airflow around the roots. It prefers moderate humidity and will drop buds if conditions shift too quickly. Wrinkled, thin segments point to underwatering, while yellowing and soft segments indicate overwatering.
