Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Ficus elastica ‘Burgundy’ is a bold, upright plant known for its thick, glossy leaves that appear deep green to almost black with rich burgundy undertones. New growth often emerges in a darker red sheath before unfurling, adding contrast and depth to the plant. Its strong, structured form and dark coloration make it a striking statement piece that brings a more dramatic feel compared to standard green varieties.

Light keeps the color deep and the plant full. Place it in an east-facing window or a few feet back from a south or west-facing window where it gets steady, bright light without direct sun hitting the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K at 500–1000 foot-candles. Too little light will cause the plant to lose that rich burgundy tone and appear more flat green, while stronger light helps maintain the darker coloration and tighter growth.

Watering should stay consistent but controlled. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If new leaves are emerging smaller with less depth in color, that points to not enough light. If the plant begins dropping lower leaves while still producing new growth at the top, it’s reacting to inconsistency in watering or environment. Leaves losing their deep tone and appearing dull green is a clear signal it needs stronger light.
