Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Begonia rex, native to northeastern India and Southeast Asia, is a foliage plant known for its highly patterned leaves in shades of silver, green, purple, red, and black with spirals, veining, and metallic finishes. What makes this plant special is its intense color variation and texture, with each leaf looking almost painted or iridescent. It grows low and spreading, forming a dense, layered mound of foliage.

Light should be bright but gentle to maintain color and leaf quality. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it gets steady light without direct sun hitting the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the top of the plant. Too much direct sun can fade or scorch the intricate patterns, while too little light will reduce color intensity and slow growth.

Watering should stay controlled and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, avoiding soaking the leaves. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy while holding some moisture. If the leaves begin to lose their bold color or appear dull, it is not getting enough light. If edges crisp while the rest of the leaf stays firm, it often points to low humidity. Soft stems or collapse at the base indicate excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
