Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Philodendron ‘Red Sun’, a cultivated hybrid from tropical South American lineage, is a self-heading philodendron known for its broad, glossy leaves that emerge in bright orange to red tones before maturing into deep green. What makes this plant special is its vibrant color shift—new growth comes in bold and warm, creating a glowing, layered look as it transitions through shades over time while staying compact and full.

Light supports both color intensity and leaf size. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause the orange and red tones to fade quickly and slow growth, while stronger light helps maintain richer color and tighter structure.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If new leaves are coming in more green than orange or red, it is not getting enough light. If the plant produces smaller leaves or begins to stretch, it may also need more light. Yellowing leaves with soft stems point to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
