Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Philodendron ‘San Paulo’, a trailing hybrid from tropical South American lineage, is known for its elongated, heart-shaped leaves with a velvety surface and subtle bronze to deep green tones. What makes this plant special is its soft, matte texture paired with that slight color shift—new growth can come in warmer and deepen as it matures, giving it a layered, moody look similar to micans but with a smoother, more elongated form.

Light drives both color tone and how tight the vines stay. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the leaves stay more green and the vines stretch with longer spacing between nodes. Strong, even light helps maintain richer tones and keeps the plant more compact.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This plant shows thirst through a slight softening of the leaves while they remain velvety, not crispy. If leaves yellow and drop while the soil is still wet, the roots are staying too saturated. Long, sparse vines point to light levels rather than watering issues.
