Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Philodendron ‘Red Congo’, a cultivated hybrid from tropical South American lineage, is a self-heading philodendron known for its broad, glossy leaves that emerge in deep red to burgundy tones before maturing into dark green. What makes this plant special is its bold color transition—new growth comes in rich and saturated, creating contrast against older foliage while maintaining a full, upright, structured form without needing support.

Light supports both color intensity and leaf size. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will dull the red tones and slow growth, while stronger light helps maintain richer color and tighter structure.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If new leaves are coming in more green with less red, it is not getting enough light. If the plant produces smaller leaves or begins to stretch, it may also need more light. Yellowing leaves with soft stems point to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
