Fatshedera (often called Fatshedera lizei) is a unique hybrid created by crossing Fatsia japonica and Hedera helix(English ivy). It originated in France in the early 20th century, where horticulturists combined the tropical, bold foliage of Fatsia with the vining habit of ivy. This plant is prized for its glossy, lobed leaves and semi-upright growth, making it suitable for both indoor settings and sheltered outdoor spaces.

For ideal lighting, place Fatshedera in bright, indirect light, especially near an east- or north-facing window. East lightgives it gentle morning sun that supports healthy growth without overheating the leaves. North light keeps illumination soft and steady, which works well because the plant prefers cool, indirect brightness rather than harsh rays. If placed near a south- or west-facing window, keep it a bit back from the glass or behind a sheer curtain so stronger sun doesn’t scorch the foliage.

Balanced light direction helps Fatshedera maintain its upright shape, as it tends to lean toward its brightest source. Rotate the pot every few weeks to encourage even growth on all sides. With consistent indirect light and moderate temperatures, Fatshedera remains lush, structured, and adaptable—an easy-care choice for both beginners and experienced plant owners.
