The Arboricola Braid Tree, commonly called the braided Schefflera arboricola, is native to Taiwan and southern China. In its natural environment, it grows as a tropical shrub or small tree beneath taller forest canopies. This plant is valued for its glossy, umbrella shaped leaves and its ability to adapt well to indoor environments. The braided trunk is created by growers when the plant is young and flexible, not something that happens in nature, but it does not harm the plant when cared for properly.

For light, place your Arboricola in bright indirect light for best growth. An east facing window is ideal, or a few feet back from a south or west window with filtered light. It will tolerate lower light, but growth will slow and leaf drop can occur over time. Direct hot sun can scorch the leaves, especially afternoon sun, so avoid placing it in full direct exposure.

Care for an Arboricola Braid Tree is straightforward. Water when the top two to three inches of soil are dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess to drain. Never let the plant sit in standing water, as this can cause root rot. Use a well draining soil and keep the plant in a pot with drainage holes. Average indoor humidity is fine, but it will appreciate occasional airflow and stable temperatures. Rotate the plant every few weeks to keep growth even and trim back leggy stems to maintain its shape.
