The Alocasia 'Parasol' is a striking, tropical plant known for its large, umbrella-like leaves and sculptural form. It belongs to the Araceae family and is a cultivar of Alocasia, native to Southeast Asia. In its natural habitat, it grows under the dappled shade of rainforest canopies, which informs much of its care requirements in the home.

In a home environment, the Alocasia Parasol thrives in bright, indirect light. East or west-facing windows are ideal, as they provide the gentle morning or afternoon sun without the harsh midday rays that can scorch its leaves. Avoid placing it in direct sun or deep shade—too much light will burn the foliage, while too little will cause leggy growth and yellowing leaves.

To care for it properly, keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Use a well-draining potting mix, and allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Alocasias enjoy higher humidity, so regular misting or a nearby humidifier will support healthy growth. During the growing season (spring and summer), feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer. In cooler months, growth may slow, and the plant can go semi-dormant—reduce watering and let it rest until it begins actively growing again.
