Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Zamioculcas zamiifolia, commonly called ZZ plant, is a tropical plant native to East Africa known for its thick, glossy green leaflets that grow along upright, arching stems. What makes this plant special is its durability and clean structure—smooth, waxy leaves that reflect light and a strong, upright growth habit that stays full with minimal effort.

Light is flexible but still influences growth and density. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it gets steady, gentle light, though it can tolerate lower light conditions. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, growth slows and stems may spread more. Stronger light keeps the plant more compact and encourages fuller, tighter growth.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a fast-draining mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This plant stores water in thick rhizomes—if stems yellow or feel soft while the soil is wet, the roots are staying too saturated. Slight wrinkling can indicate it’s ready for water. Most issues with this plant come from overwatering, not underwatering.
