The Wide Form Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera adansonii var. laniata) is a striking vining aroid with larger, broader leaves than the classic adansonii. Its dramatic fenestrations—those natural “Swiss cheese” holes—make it a showstopper in any plant collection. Native to Central and South America, it thrives in bright, indirect light, such as near an east- or south-facing window filtered by a sheer curtain. The right light encourages bigger leaves and more pronounced fenestrations, while too little light can lead to smaller, less perforated growth. With space to climb or trail, this plant brings a lush, tropical statement to your home.

Caring for the wide form is simple when you mimic its natural environment. Keep the soil lightly moist but allow it to dry out slightly between waterings, and maintain higher humidity levels for optimal growth. It benefits from rotating regularly so each side gets equal light exposure, preventing lopsided growth.
