Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Platycerium, commonly called staghorn fern, is an epiphytic fern native to tropical regions of Australia, Southeast Asia, and Africa known for its antler-shaped fronds that branch outward as it matures. It produces two types of growth—flat shield fronds at the base that anchor and protect the plant, and upright, forked fronds that give it that dramatic, sculptural look. It is often mounted rather than potted, creating a more natural, display-style plant.

Light should be bright and filtered to support steady growth. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it receives gentle, consistent light without direct sun hitting the fronds. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the top of the plant. Too much direct sun can scorch and dry the fronds, while too little light will slow growth and reduce the size and branching of new fronds.

Watering and environment depend on how it is grown. If mounted, soak the base and allow it to dry slightly before watering again. If potted, allow the mix to lightly dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy. The brown shield fronds at the base are normal and should not be removed. If the antler fronds become thin and droopy, it needs more consistent moisture. If the base begins to soften or blacken, it is staying too wet rather than drying out.
