Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Sarracenia × farnhamii is a natural hybrid between Sarracenia leucophylla and Sarracenia rubra. It is prized for its elegant upright pitchers, strong veining, and glowing white upper pitcher windows inherited from leucophylla. Many forms develop rich red throats, copper veining, or pink tones depending on season and light intensity. Compared to some heavier hybrids, Farnhamii tends to have a more refined, slender pitcher shape with excellent color contrast.

This hybrid needs very strong light to maintain upright pitchers and develop its best coloration. Outdoors in full sun is ideal, with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Higher light increases red veining, strengthens the white windowing, and helps prevent floppy growth. In weaker light, the pitchers usually become greener, softer, and less structurally stable. Indoors, it requires extremely powerful grow lighting to perform well long term. Use 5000K–6500K grow lights positioned roughly 8–12 inches above the pitchers for high intensity exposure.

Keep the soil consistently wet using distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water only. Never allow minerals from tap water or fertilizer buildup into the media. A nutrient-poor mix of sphagnum peat and perlite works well. During active growth, the tray method is preferred so the roots remain moist. Like other temperate Sarracenia, this hybrid requires a winter dormancy period for long-term vigor. Shorter or deformed pitchers usually signal insufficient light, while browning lids or crispy tops often point to mineral buildup, inconsistent watering, or excessive heat stress on newly emerging growth.
