Raven ZZ Plant 10”

Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Raven’, commonly called raven ZZ plant, is a tropical plant native to East Africa known for its thick, glossy leaves that emerge bright green and mature to deep purple-black. What makes this plant special is that color shift—new growth contrasts sharply against older dark foliage, giving it a bold, modern look while staying extremely durable.

Light is flexible but still affects color and growth. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it gets steady, gentle light, though it can tolerate lower light conditions. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, growth slows and the plant stays more open. Stronger light encourages fuller growth and faster darkening of new leaves.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a fast-draining mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This plant stores water in its rhizomes—if stems feel soft or yellow while the soil is wet, the roots are staying too saturated. If leaves wrinkle slightly, it’s ready for water. Slow growth is normal, and most issues come from overwatering, not neglect.
