Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Davallia fejeensis, commonly called Rabbit’s Foot Fern, is a tropical fern grown for its unique fuzzy rhizomes that creep along the soil surface. Native to Fiji, it grows as an epiphyte in warm, humid forests, often attaching to trees or organic material. What makes this plant special is the soft, fur-like rhizomes that resemble rabbit’s feet and extend over the edge of the pot, paired with delicate, finely divided green fronds. It has a light, airy appearance but strong visual texture from the rhizomes.

Light requirements
Place Rabbit’s Foot Fern in an east or north window for the best results, positioned at the window or within 1 to 3 feet depending on intensity. A south or west window can work if pulled back to avoid direct sun hitting the fronds. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light 12 to 18 inches above the canopy. It performs best around 100 to 300 foot-candles. Too much light will dry and burn the fronds, while too little will slow growth.

Watering & environment
Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, never fully dry and never saturated. Always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter before watering. Do not bury the fuzzy rhizomes, keep them on top of the soil where they can stay dry. This plant prefers higher humidity, steady airflow, and cooler to moderate indoor temperatures.

What your plant is telling you
If fronds become crispy or dry at the edges, it needs more humidity or has dried out too much. If fronds yellow or collapse, the soil is staying too wet. If growth slows and fronds become sparse, it needs more consistent light.
