The purple waffle plant (Hemigraphis alternata) is a popular houseplant known for its striking, purple-tinged foliage. It’s relatively easy to care for and thrives in moderate indoor conditions. Here's how to keep it healthy:

Light: It prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light can cause the colors to fade.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Be careful not to let it sit in water, as it can lead to root rot.

Humidity: It enjoys higher humidity, so misting or using a humidifier can be beneficial, especially in dry environments.

Temperature: This plant thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 60–80°F. Avoid placing it in areas with drafts or sudden temperature changes.

Soil: Well-draining, loamy soil works best. A standard potting mix with some added perlite for drainage should suffice.

Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter.

The purple waffle plant is native to Southeast Asia, particularly in areas like India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. In its natural habitat, it grows as a groundcover plant in humid, tropical forests. It was introduced to other parts of the world as a decorative houseplant due to its unique and colorful foliage.
