Epipremnum aureum ‘Neon Queen’ is a striking pothos cultivar prized for its vibrant chartreuse to neon-yellow foliage accented with irregular dark green variegation. What makes this plant special is the combination of the glowing color found in neon pothos with the marbled pattern of a variegated cultivar, giving each leaf a unique appearance. It is a fast-growing climber or trailer that becomes even more impressive as it matures.
Light is the key to maintaining both its bright color and variegation. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light without prolonged harsh afternoon sun. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K positioned 8–12 inches above the canopy. In lower light, the neon coloration becomes duller, the green variegation can become less defined, and the spacing between leaves increases. Strong, even light encourages compact growth, vibrant foliage, and larger leaves, especially when grown up a moss pole or plank.
Allow the soil to dry about halfway between waterings, then water thoroughly and let the excess drain away. A well-draining mix of succulent soil, coarse orchid bark, and perlite provides the airflow the roots need while holding enough moisture for healthy growth. If the leaves begin to curl or lose firmness while the soil is dry, it’s ready for water. Yellowing leaves while the soil remains wet indicate the roots are staying too saturated. If new leaves become noticeably smaller, the plant is usually asking for more light or vertical support rather than additional fertilizer.
Like other pothos, Neon Queen changes dramatically depending on how it is grown. Trailing vines produce smaller leaves, while climbing encourages much larger foliage and a more mature appearance. Because of its lighter-colored leaves, it benefits from brighter light than solid green varieties like jade pothos to maintain its vivid coloration and crisp variegation.

from 816 reviewsBeautiful plant! Very well packaged and timely shipping!
The plant arrived in perfect condition and is beautiful. I love it!
Despite the “beginner” name, I’d say it’s genuinely useful at any experience level. It starts with a solid foundation for those just getting into houseplants, but the depth of the later guides means it doesn’t feel like it’s talking down to anyone with more experience. It’s less about basic care instructions and more about building a real understanding of how plants function, which is useful whether you’re keeping your first pothos alive or managing a larger, more varied collection.
What sets it apart is the emphasis on understanding why plants behave the way they do, not just prescribing one-size-fits-all care instructions. This approach makes it easier to recognize early warning signs and address issues before they become serious problems.
Overall, I’d recommend this to anyone who wants a more thorough, connected understanding of plant care rather than piecemeal advice — regardless of how long you’ve been growing.
Wonderful shop to purchase from! I am
Learning so much and am thoroughly enjoying the beginners plant guide series. The pest guide helped me successfully defeat fungus gnats and taught me to transition to bottom watering. Thanks Mel!!
