Pinguicula ‘Weser’.
A hybrid (likely moranensis × ehlersiae) bred for color, vigor, and indoor adaptability.
One of the most popular hybrids due to its strong red/pink coloration under high light and consistent flowering. Fast-growing and forgiving compared to species.
Leaves form a symmetrical rosette with smooth, slightly elongated pads that blush pink to red under higher light.
Pinguicula, commonly called pings or butterworts, are carnivorous plants known for their compact rosettes of sticky leaves that naturally trap fungus gnats, fruit flies, and other tiny insects. The shiny droplets across the foliage are produced by specialized glands that trap and digest prey, allowing the plant to absorb additional nutrients through its leaves. What makes pings especially interesting is that many Mexican species and hybrids can change dramatically throughout the year, transitioning between a larger carnivorous rosette and a smaller, succulent-like seasonal growth form.
Light is critical for keeping pings compact, colorful, and actively producing sticky carnivorous leaves. Place them in an east or south-facing window where they receive strong, consistent light with some gentle direct sun. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed approximately 6–10 inches above the plant for 12–14 hours per day. Strong light encourages tighter rosettes, better coloration, flowering, and healthy carnivorous growth. Introduce stronger light gradually if the plant has previously been grown under lower light.
Pings have very small, delicate root systems and should be grown in a low-nutrient, extremely airy carnivorous plant mix rather than traditional houseplant soil. Use distilled, reverse-osmosis, or rainwater when possible, especially if your tap water contains significant dissolved minerals. During active carnivorous growth, keep the substrate lightly moist without leaving the plant continuously submerged in deep water. Many Mexican Pinguicula transition into a smaller, non-carnivorous succulent-like rosette seasonally. When this happens, reduce watering considerably and allow the substrate to remain drier until larger sticky leaves begin returning. Do not fertilize the soil, and avoid oils, soaps, alcohol, leaf shine, or traditional houseplant treatments on the foliage.
Watch the rosette for the clearest signals. Firm leaves with visible sticky droplets and steady growth indicate an actively growing carnivorous plant. A smaller, tighter rosette with thicker leaves can be a completely normal seasonal transition rather than decline. Older bottom leaves naturally brown as new growth develops from the center, but black or mushy tissue around the crown signals a problem with excess moisture or insufficient airflow. Never wipe the shiny droplets from the leaves—they are the plant’s natural trapping mechanism. Flowers held above the foliage on long stems are also completely normal and are part of the plant’s natural growth cycle.

from 904 reviewsIt was very packaged and plants looked great upon arrival.
I dont know if this is about the actual shipping protection for my plants when they were sent in the mail. I was happy with it, I probably didnt need it because the weather was mild, but better to have it and not need it.
