Your Starter Collection includes three Pinguicula selected from what I currently have available in the shop. Each plant is normally $25 individually, giving this collection a $75 plant value for $60. Your collection also includes the proper Pinguicula substrate and a container for each plant, so you have what you need to get all three set up when they arrive.
I’ll choose three healthy plants from current inventory and, whenever inventory allows, build a collection with some variety. That may mean different colors, rosette shapes, species or hybrids. Your plants may also be in different stages of their seasonal growth, which is part of what makes Pinguicula so interesting to collect.
Pinguicula, commonly called butterworts, are small carnivorous plants with leaves covered in tiny glands that produce sticky mucilage. Small insects such as fungus gnats can become trapped on the leaves, allowing the plant to absorb nutrients from its prey. Depending on the variety and its current growth phase, your plants may be lime green, yellow, peach, pink, burgundy or purple, with leaf shapes ranging from tiny rounded rosettes to much longer, narrow foliage.
Many Mexican Pinguicula also move between carnivorous and succulent growth. A plant covered in broad, sticky leaves during active growth may eventually begin producing smaller, thicker leaves from the center as it enters its succulent phase. Later, broader glandular leaves return as carnivorous growth resumes. Your plants may arrive at different points in that cycle.
The exact varieties included will change with inventory, so the plants pictured are examples rather than a guarantee of what you will receive. Specific varieties cannot be requested or guaranteed. When inventory allows, I will choose three different varieties rather than sending duplicates.
