Philodendron subhastatum is a climbing aroid native to Colombia and Ecuador, known for its long, narrow green leaves and distinctive reddish to burgundy coloration on the undersides of mature foliage. What makes this plant special is the contrast between the relatively simple green upper surface and the unexpected color underneath. Juvenile plants may show very little red at first, but the characteristic burgundy backing becomes more noticeable as the plant matures.
Light supports larger leaves, tighter spacing, and stronger mature growth. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light without prolonged harsh sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. Give it a moss pole, plank, or other sturdy support to climb. Strong light combined with vertical support encourages larger successive leaves and helps the plant develop its mature characteristics.
Allow the soil to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let the excess drain away. Use a well-aerated mix of 1/3 succulent soil, 1/3 coarse orchid bark, and 1/3 grade 3–4 perlite. Check deeper into the root zone with a chopstick or water meter rather than relying on the surface of the soil. Moderate household humidity is usually sufficient, but consistent airflow around the foliage and root zone helps maintain healthy growth.
Watch the newest growth and spacing between leaves for its clearest signals. Larger successive leaves, shorter internodes, strong stems, and increasingly noticeable burgundy undersides indicate that the plant is maturing well. Long spaces between leaves and progressively smaller foliage usually point to insufficient light or lack of climbing support. Drooping foliage with a dry root zone indicates it is ready for water, while yellowing leaves or softening stems with consistently wet soil point to excess moisture.

from 904 reviewsIt was very packaged and plants looked great upon arrival.
I dont know if this is about the actual shipping protection for my plants when they were sent in the mail. I was happy with it, I probably didnt need it because the weather was mild, but better to have it and not need it.
