Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

The Silver Sword Philodendron, Philodendron hastatum, is native to Brazil and is known for its elongated, blade-like leaves with a silvery-blue metallic sheen. Juvenile leaves start smaller and more oval, then stretch into long, sword-shaped foliage as the plant matures and climbs. What makes this plant desirable is that cool-toned metallic look combined with its ability to size up dramatically when given support like a moss pole.

Place this plant in an east or west-facing window about 1–3 feet from the glass, or a south-facing window 3–5 feet back. Strong light helps maintain that silvery color and drives larger leaf development. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K positioned 8–12 inches above the canopy. If the plant becomes darker green and loses that metallic tone or stretches, it needs more light. If leaves show bleaching or stress, the light may be too intense.

Water using a chopstick or meter and let the soil dry about halfway before watering again. This plant prefers a chunky, well-draining mix and does not want to stay wet. Overwatering leads to yellowing and soft stems, while underwatering shows up as drooping or curling leaves. Giving it a support to climb will encourage larger, more mature foliage and a stronger overall structure.
