Philodendron Silver Stripe 8” basket

Philodendron hederaceum ‘Silver Stripe’, native to Central and South America, is a vining philodendron known for its elongated, heart-shaped leaves marked with a central stripe of silver to cream variegation. What makes this plant special is that clean, consistent stripe that runs through each leaf, giving it a more refined, high-contrast look compared to other trailing philodendrons. It grows as a fast, trailing or climbing plant, producing longer vines with evenly spaced foliage.

Light supports both variegation and compact growth. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause the stripe to fade and lean more green, while too much direct sun can burn the lighter section.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If new leaves are coming in with less defined striping, it is not getting enough light. If the plant starts to stretch with longer spacing between nodes, it is reaching for more light. Smaller leaves with reduced variegation typically point to lower light rather than watering issues.
