Philodendron Selloum, often known as the Tree Philodendron, is a stunning plant with large, deeply lobed leaves that can add a tropical touch to your home. Here’s how to care for it:

Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. However, in low light, growth may slow, and the leaves might not be as large.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
  • East, South, or West light.

Watering:

  • Be careful not to overwater—let the soil dry out slightly between waterings.
  • During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently (about once a week), and in fall/winter, reduce watering.
  • Ensure proper drainage to avoid root rot.
  • Prefers moderate to high humidity but can tolerate average indoor humidity.
  • To encourage healthy growth, mist the leaves occasionally or use a humidifier if the air is too dry.

Temperature:

  • Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F
  • Avoid placing it in drafty areas or near AC/heating vents, as it doesn’t like temperature fluctuations.

Soil:

  • Well-draining, loamy soil is ideal. A mix of potting soil with perlite and peat moss helps ensure good drainage and aeration.

 Fertilizing:

  • Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
  • Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when growth slows down.

Pruning:

  • Prune regularly to maintain shape, especially if the plant becomes leggy or overgrown.
  • You can remove any dead or yellowing leaves to keep it looking neat.
  • If you want to propagate, you can take stem cuttings and root them in water or soil.

Repotting:

  • Philodendron Selloum can grow large, so repot when it outgrows its current container (typically every 1-2 years).
  • Choose a pot that’s just a size or two larger than the current one to prevent water from sitting in the soil for too long.
