Notocactus uebelmannianus, also known as Parodia uebelmanniana, is a small, globular cactus prized for its rich green body, defined ribbing, and contrasting golden to reddish spines. Native to southern Brazil, it stays compact and rounded, often producing vibrant funnel-shaped flowers in shades of yellow, orange, or red from the crown. What makes Notocactus uebelmannianus stand out is the clean symmetry of its ribs and the bold contrast between the body and spines, giving it a structured, sculptural look.

Place Notocactus uebelmannianus in a south or west window where it can receive strong direct light, ideally right at the glass or within 1 foot. This is a high-light plant that needs intensity to maintain its shape and spine development. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light about 8 to 12 inches above the plant. It performs best around 800 to 2,000+ foot-candles. In lower light, it will stretch, lose its compact form, and produce weaker spines.

Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Use a very fast-draining mix, and always check the full depth of the pot before adding water. When you do water, fully saturate the soil and then let it dry again. If the plant starts to soften or discolor at the base, the soil is staying too wet. If it shrivels slightly, it is ready for water. During cooler months or lower light periods, reduce watering significantly to prevent rot.
