Nerve plants are beloved for their striking, veined leaves that come in shades of white, pink, or red. Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, they thrive in warm, humid conditions—making them perfect for terrariums or cozy indoor spaces.

To keep your nerve plant healthy, give it bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, but too little light will cause the colors to fade and growth to become leggy. East- or north-facing windows are ideal, or place it near a bright window filtered with a sheer curtain. If the light is too low, consider using a grow light. Nerve plants also love consistent moisture—keep the soil lightly damp but never soggy. They’re quick to wilt when thirsty, but bounce back fast after watering. Just don’t let them dry out completely.

There are several popular types of Fittonia to choose from:

  • Fittonia albivenis – Classic white-veined leaves, the most common variety.

  • Fittonia ‘Red Star’ – Bold red veins on dark green leaves.

  • Fittonia ‘Pink Angel’ – Bright pink veining, perfect for a pop of color.

  • Fittonia ‘Mini White’ – A more compact version with white veining.

To keep your Fittonia happy, maintain high humidity—mist often, group it with other plants, or use a humidifier. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature drops. Pinch back the tips regularly to keep the plant full and bushy. With the right care, your nerve plant will stay vibrant and thriving!
