Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Monstera karstenianum, commonly called Monstera Peru, is a climbing aroid native to Central and South America known for its thick, deeply textured leaves with a rippled, almost corrugated surface. The foliage is dark green, glossy, and rigid, giving it a more structured and compact look compared to other monsteras. It climbs tightly along a support and stays full with short internodes when in the right conditions.

Light keeps the texture pronounced and the growth compact. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause longer spacing between leaves and reduce that tight, textured look, while stronger light keeps the leaves thicker and more defined.

Watering should stay balanced and controlled. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If the leaves begin to flatten and lose their deep texture, it is often from staying too wet rather than too dry. If the plant starts spacing out and climbing loosely instead of tightly, it is reaching for more light. Smaller, less rigid leaves also point to not enough light rather than watering issues.
