Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Monstera obliqua, native to Central and South America, is an extremely rare climbing aroid known for its paper-thin leaves with large, delicate fenestrations that often leave more holes than leaf tissue. The foliage is soft and fragile with a light green tone, and as it matures and climbs, the leaves become more open and lace-like. It has a very airy, delicate presence and requires stable conditions to thrive.

Light should be bright and filtered to support growth without stressing the thin leaves. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it gets steady light without direct sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the top of the plant. Too much direct sun can damage or dry out the delicate leaves, while too little light will slow growth and reduce fenestration development.

Watering and environment need to stay very consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to maintain airflow while holding moisture. If new leaves are emerging smaller with fewer fenestrations, it is not getting enough light. If the thin leaf tissue begins to dry or tear easily, it is reacting to low humidity or inconsistent moisture. Sudden decline or soft stems usually point to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
