Monstera deliciosa ‘Compacta Aurea’ is a variegated form of Monstera deliciosa grown for its green foliage patterned with yellow, lime and golden variegation. The amount and placement of color can vary considerably from leaf to leaf, giving each new leaf a different appearance. The “Compacta Aurea” name is used horticulturally for this compact-growing aurea form, while the yellow variegation is what gives the plant its distinctive collector appeal.
Although called Compacta, this is still a climbing Monstera deliciosa. It develops a thickening stem, aerial roots and increasingly substantial foliage as it matures. Providing a sturdy moss pole, plank or other vertical support gives the aerial roots somewhere to attach and allows the plant to follow its natural climbing habit. Juvenile leaves may begin relatively simple, while established plants can develop increasingly larger leaves with the splits and internal fenestrations associated with mature Monstera deliciosa. Its more compact growth does not mean it remains a small tabletop plant indefinitely.
For natural light, place Compacta Aurea approximately 1–3 feet from an east-facing window or 2–4 feet from a west-facing window as a starting point. Aim for approximately 800–1,500 foot-candles at the leaves. Foot-candles simply tell you how much light is actually reaching your plant. The yellow portions of the leaves contain less chlorophyll than the green portions, so good usable light helps support the plant’s overall growth. Too little light can result in longer petioles, greater spacing between leaves, smaller new foliage and slower progression toward mature leaf shape.
Under grow lights, use a 5000–6500K full-spectrum grow light approximately 8–12 inches above the top of the canopy as a starting point. A practical target is approximately 150–250 µmol/m²/s PPFD at the leaves. PPFD simply tells you how much photosynthetically useful light is actually reaching your plant. As the plant climbs, move the fixture with the growing canopy so the newest leaves remain within the useful light zone. Light supports the green tissue that powers the plant and helps it produce stronger growth, but increasing the light does not create or guarantee additional yellow variegation.
Water when your plant needs watered. Allow the root zone to use a good portion of its available moisture before watering thoroughly again rather than watering according to a calendar. An airy, well-draining aroid mix allows the roots to receive both water and oxygen. A larger established plant with an active root system and several large leaves can use water considerably faster than a small juvenile plant, so its watering needs will change as it grows and as light and temperature change throughout the year.
Read the newest growth rather than judging the plant by a single older leaf. Increasingly long petioles, wider spaces between leaves, smaller new foliage or a plant strongly reaching toward its light source are reasons to check the amount of light reaching the canopy. Aerial roots developing along the stem are normal and can be directed into the support. Aurea variegation can change considerably between successive leaves, and more or less yellow on an individual leaf is part of the natural variation of the plant.
Success looks like a sturdy climbing stem, active aerial roots and successive leaves becoming increasingly substantial. As the plant establishes itself on its support, mature growth can develop deeper splits and internal fenestrations while maintaining its green and golden-yellow patterning. Watch the progression of several new leaves together. Increasing leaf size, stronger attachment to its support, tighter growth and continued development of mature leaf characteristics are excellent signs that Compacta Aurea is growing well.

So far so good! 🤞
I love the smaller plant sizes because I love watching them grow. The key to that is a strong root system and Mel definitely came through with a great plant with a good root system!
This may be the cutest plants I have ever received! It's adorable. The plant was packaged extremely well and had no shipping damage. It's also very healthy and happy. I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend buying from this shop.
