Dischidia ruscifolia, commonly called Million Hearts, is a trailing epiphytic plant native to Southeast Asia known for its small, thick, heart-shaped leaves that grow densely along fine vines. What makes this plant special is its compact, cascading habit where hundreds of tiny hearts stack closely together, creating a full, delicate curtain of foliage. Its soft texture and uniform shape give it a clean, decorative look that works especially well in hanging displays.

Light supports its dense, compact growth. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause the vines to stretch with more spacing between leaves, while stronger light keeps the hearts tight and closely stacked.

Watering should stay light and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out most of the way between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy and fast-draining. If the vines begin to thin out with wider gaps between leaves, it is reaching for more light. If the leaves start to soften or lose their firm shape, it is ready for water. Yellowing or dropping leaves with soft stems point to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
