Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’, commonly called Mona Lisa lipstick plant, is a tropical trailing plant native to Southeast Asia known for its glossy, slightly textured green leaves and clusters of deep red tubular flowers. The foliage grows along cascading stems, creating a full, trailing look that works well in hanging planters. When in bloom, the flowers emerge from darker buds, giving that “lipstick” effect.

Light supports both flowering and compact growth. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will reduce or stop blooming and cause the plant to stretch, while stronger light supports fuller growth and more consistent flowering.

Watering should stay moderate and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy. If the plant stops blooming and growth becomes spaced out, it is not getting enough light. If leaves begin to drop suddenly while still green, it is often reacting to changes in environment or inconsistent watering. Wrinkling leaves along the vine signal it is ready for water, while soft stems point to excess moisture at the roots.
