Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Crassula arborescens, commonly called silver dollar jade, is a succulent native to South Africa known for its thick, round blue-green leaves often edged in red. What makes this plant special is its soft silvery tone paired with its chunky, coin-shaped foliage, giving it a sculptural, tree-like appearance as it matures.

Light drives both color and stem strength. Place it in a south or west-facing window where it receives strong, direct light for several hours a day. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 6–10 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the stems stretch and weaken, and the silvery tone fades more green. Strong light keeps the plant compact with tighter spacing between leaves.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a fast-draining mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. The leaves store water—if they wrinkle slightly while staying firm, it’s ready for water. If leaves become soft, translucent, or begin dropping while the soil is wet, the roots are staying too saturated.

This plant communicates clearly through leaf firmness and spacing. Tight growth with thick, stacked leaves indicates healthy light levels. Long gaps between leaves or leaning stems signal it needs more light. Slight wrinkling means it has dried out too far, while mushy stems or dropping leaves point to excess moisture rather than thirst.
