Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Crassula ovata ‘Variegata’, commonly called variegated jade, is a succulent native to South Africa known for its thick, fleshy leaves marked with cream to yellow variegation along the edges. What makes this plant special is its clean, high-contrast coloring paired with its ability to develop a tree-like structure over time, especially as stems thicken and branch. Under strong light, the edges can take on soft pink tones, adding another layer of color.

Light is critical to maintain variegation and compact growth. Place it in a south or west-facing window where it receives the strongest natural light. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will cause the variegation to fade and the plant to stretch, while strong light keeps the leaves thick, stacked, and well-colored.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it dry again. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it fast-draining. If the plant begins to elongate with wider spacing between leaves, it is reaching for more light. If the leaves wrinkle slightly but stay firm, it is ready for water. Soft, mushy leaves or blackening at the base point to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
