Homalomena Selby is a tropical foliage plant native to Southeast Asia, where it grows along forest floors in warm, humid environments. It is prized for its broad, glossy, heart shaped leaves and compact growth habit. This plant stays relatively low and full, making it an excellent choice for indoor spaces where a lush look is wanted without a large footprint.

Homalomena Selby prefers bright indirect light but adapts well to medium light conditions. An east or north facing window works very well, or placement several feet back from a brighter window. Avoid direct sunlight, especially afternoon sun, as it can scorch the leaves and cause fading. Too little light may slow growth and reduce leaf size, but it generally handles lower light better than many tropical plants.

Care for Homalomena Selby focuses on consistency. Water when the top one to two inches of soil feel dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. This plant prefers evenly moist soil but does not tolerate soggy conditions. Use a well draining soil mix and a pot with drainage holes. It enjoys higher humidity but does fine in normal indoor conditions. Keep it in warm temperatures, avoid cold drafts, and wipe the leaves occasionally to keep them clean and able to photosynthesize efficiently.
