Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Homalomena ‘Selby’, a cultivated tropical plant with roots in Southeast Asian rainforest species, is known for its broad, thick leaves with a deep green to slightly bluish tone and a smooth, matte finish. What makes this plant special is its strong, structured foliage paired with a compact, self-heading growth habit that stays full without needing support. The leaves have a slightly rounded, shield-like shape that gives it a bold, grounded presence.

Light should be moderate to bright but gentle to maintain leaf size and color. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it gets steady, consistent light without direct sun hitting the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too much direct sun can stress and dull the foliage, while too little light will slow growth and reduce leaf size.

Watering should stay consistent with slightly higher moisture needs. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy while holding moisture. If new leaves are coming in smaller or the plant loses its full shape, it is not getting enough light. If the plant droops while the soil is still wet, it points to excess moisture at the roots. Yellowing leaves with soft stems indicate overwatering rather than underwatering.
