Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Euphorbia mammillaris ‘Variegata’, commonly called variegated corn cob euphorbia, is a succulent native to South Africa known for its segmented, knobby stems with ridged sections marked in creamy yellow and green. What makes this plant special is its stacked, almost geometric growth—short, columnar segments that look sculpted, combined with bright variegation that can shift in intensity depending on light.

Light drives both color and how compact the segments stay. Place it in a south or west-facing window where it receives strong, direct light. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 6–10 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the variegation fades and new growth becomes longer and less defined. Strong light keeps the segments tight, well-stacked, and more brightly colored.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it dry again, using a fast-draining mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This plant shows issues through its structure—if segments become soft or translucent, the roots are staying too wet. If new growth stretches or loses its compact form, it’s reacting to light, not water. As a euphorbia, it contains a milky sap that can irritate skin, so handle with care if cut or damaged.
