Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

The Coffee Plant, Coffea arabica, is a tropical shrub native to Ethiopia, grown indoors for its glossy, deep green leaves and dense, bushy growth. In its natural environment, it grows under canopy cover, which is why it adapts well to indoor conditions. Over time, with the right care, it can produce small white flowers followed by red cherries, though indoors it’s primarily valued for its clean, polished foliage and full shape.

Light requirements start with direction. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it receives bright, indirect light without harsh direct sun. It can handle a west window if pulled back 3–5 feet, but avoid strong direct exposure that can burn the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K positioned 10–14 inches from the canopy. This is a medium-light plant, and consistent exposure keeps growth full and even.

Watering and environment should stay consistent and slightly on the moist side. Let the top portion of the soil dry down, but do not allow it to fully dry out. Then water thoroughly and allow it to drain. Always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter before watering. This plant will drop leaves if it dries too far. Leaves curling or drooping soft mean it needs water, yellowing can point to overwatering, and dull, slowed growth usually ties back to low light. Keep humidity moderate to higher, temperatures warm, and avoid cold drafts.
