Calathea ‘Dottie’ is a striking and dramatic tropical plant, prized for its dark, almost black leaves accented by vivid pink markings that trace the leaf veins and edges like neon artwork. A member of the Marantaceae family, this plant is native to the tropical rainforests of South America and is part of the “prayer plant” group—its leaves rise and fall throughout the day in response to light. With its rich color contrast and unique movement, Calathea Dottie adds an exotic, bold touch to any plant collection.

For best results, place your Calathea Dottie in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as the intense rays can cause leaf burn and fade the vibrant pink coloring. It can handle lower light conditions, but growth may be slower and colors less intense. A north- or east-facing window is ideal, or position it in filtered light from a brighter exposure.

This plant loves humidity and evenly moist soil. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater to prevent mineral buildup that can damage the sensitive leaves. Water when soil is dry, and maintain humidity levels of at least 50%, using a humidifier or pebble tray if needed. Calathea Dottie prefers temperatures between 65–80°F and dislikes cold drafts. With proper care, this moody beauty will continue to grow and unfurl its leaves in rhythm with the light—bringing living elegance to your indoor space.
